Sometimes, amazing things happen by accident. However, accidentally running a half-marathon is probably one thing that many of us would never do. Besides, joining these events requires lots of training to build up our stamina and endurance.
One sunny day in Elkmont, Alabama, a resident named April Hamlin decided to let her dog, Ludivine, out in the yard to use the toilet. Little did April know that her dog would end up doing something truly amazing that captured the hearts of tons of people from all over the world.
During that fateful day, the Elkmont Half Marathon was taking place. Ludivine decided to go on a stroll. She found herself on the street where the marathon was being held. After Ludivine saw a bunch of people running and having fun, she probably thought that it would be great to join.
As a Bloodhound, Ludivine is a natural roamer. She was very curious about what was going on and why there were so many people running. April would often let Ludivine go on walks by herself regularly since it was a small town and Ludivine always find her way back home.
However, this particular weekend was different. April suddenly got a text from her co-worker about Ludivine. It turns out that her beloved dog accidentally finished the half-marathon and even got a medal for it.
At first, April thought that Ludivine happened to turn up during the post-race celebrations or she must have only ran the last hundred feet. However, the organizers of the event informed April that Ludivine actually ran the entire distance and got so much love from the runners and spectators.
When April went to the event’s finish line to pick up Ludivine, she found people posing next to her dog and even hugging and congratulating the adorable pup. Ludivine instantly became a celebrity and her story and photos became viral almost overnight.
April was a little surprised that her dog ran the entire 13.1 miles since Ludivine was a lazy dog who was likely to get caught snuggling on a warm couch with thick blankets. Here’s a video featuring Ludivine’s story and her accidental success in running a half-marathon.
